Notes for goodwill are <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecourse.co.uk\/nbs8135\/goodwill.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> <\/strong>(pdf).<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s an illustrative case study, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecourse.co.uk\/nbs8135\/qmerton.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Merton and Peartree<\/strong><\/a>, which you should study and try to complete. In this case study, you do not have to calculate the figure for goodwill &#8211; it has already been done. However, there are some extra narrative parts (on goodwill) for you to tackle. These will be covered in today&#8217;s class, and there is a full solution provided.<\/p>\n<p>You will also need to be able to prepare a combined consolidated income statement and statement of financial position. There&#8217;s an example case study Cuba and Mali <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ecourse.co.uk\/materials\/consolidations\/cubamali.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>again, a full solution with workings is included.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Associates_Joint_Ventures_and_Equity_Accounting\"><\/span><strong>Associates, Joint Ventures and Equity Accounting<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>You need to know the basics of accounting in the consolidated financial statements for the results of associated companies and joint ventures. These are explored in this <a href=\"https:\/\/ecourse.co.uk\/groups\/associates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>elearning resource<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is a very useful case study <a href=\"http:\/\/ecourse.co.uk\/materials\/consolidations\/kroot_lamkin_menders.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kroot, Lamkin and Mender<\/strong><del><strong>s<\/strong><\/del><\/a> (this includes an additional annotated set of financial statements as well as workings, and solutions). This is probably the most complex example of what you should be able to do.
